Cabbage stir fry is one of my family’s favorite side dishes. We like it with rice, sandwiches, wraps, and sometimes shepherd’s pie for our dinners or lunches. This stir fry is so healthy and delicious.
It takes a short time and only 9 ingredients to make this flavorful, colorful, crunchy, and extremely nutritious vegetable. The dish will be ready in less than 10 minutes.
What is stir-fried cabbage?
Stir-fry cabbage is a side dish made from chopped or shredded cabbage fried in a small amount of hot oil over a short period of time. The cabbage is constantly stirred in the pot or saucepan to give it a slightly tender but crunchy texture.
What type of cabbage do you need for the stir fry?
They are different types or varieties of cabbage to choose from. You can use any cabbage to make the stir fry. You can use green, red, Napa, or savoy cabbage. Pick your preference.
How long do you cook cabbage stir fry?
Stir-fried cabbage should take less than 10 minutes to prepare and cook. Just cook it until it is slightly tender but not very soft. I like to make mine a little crunchy.
How to cut/shred the cabbage.
You will need a sharp knife or a good shredder and a cutting board. Remove any loose green-brown leaves and rinse the cabbage in cold water. Place the cabbage head on the board facing up and Cut it in half through the core.
Place the half side down and cut in the middle, so you get 4 quarters. Chop off the core
Place the quarter side down on the chopping board and cut crosswise into desired slices.
How to serve cabbage stir fry.
You can serve stir-fried cabbage together with the main dish as a side dish. It compliments very well with most dishes. You can have it with rice, pasta, in your sandwiches or meatless stews.
What ingredients do you need to make this cabbage stir-fry recipe?
Shredded cabbage: I use freshly cut or shredded cabbage. You can use a shredder or a food processor to chop the cabbage. You can as well use pre-shredded cabbage.
Shredded carrots: Freshly shredded carrots add color, flavor, and nutrients to this recipe. You can as well use pre-shredded carrots too.
Spices: we like cardamom and turmeric. I use them in most of my recipes because they contain some unique rich, authentic flavor and medicinal properties that are good for health.
Bell peppers: Bell peppers are excellent sources of vitamin A, C, antioxidants, and minerals. They come in different colors, red, yellow, orange and green. In this recipe, I used green and yellow bell peppers but feel free to pick your preference.
White onions and garlic: These add flavor and taste to the dish.
