Easy Vegan Chickpea Curry Recipe (Creamy and Gluten-free)

I Love chickpea curry. I ate it one time at some Indian restaurant and loved it. Since then, it has become one of my favorite dishes, and I am glad my family enjoys it as well. We like eating it with brown basmati rice, sweet potato, and white quinoa.

This vegan chickpea curry is easy and faster to make. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare; it’s creamy, gluten-free, and yummy. The coconut cream will add flavor and make it very delicious. It is excellent for an entire family, whether you are vegan, transitioning, or not.

Should you use canned or home-cooked Chickpeas?

You can use a can of pre-cooked or home-cooked chickpea. If using canned chickpeas, make sure you drain the juice and rinse the beans. Boil or cook the canned chickpeas for a few minutes to soften them before making the curry.

You will need:

  • Cooked Chickpeas
  • Spices-Curry powder or paste (yellow or red), turmeric powder, and smoked paprika.
  • Tomatoes (Paste or chopped)
  • White chopped onions.
  • Minced garlic
  • Chopped carrots
  • Coconut or Cashew cream
  • Hot water (optional)

How to make vegan Chickpea Curry

Step One

Heat oil in a large saucepan and add your chopped onions and let cook for a few minutes or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for another 2 minutes

Add the chopped carrots and cook for a few minutes and add the tomatoes. Cook while stirring occasionally for about 2-3 minutes until the contents combine well.

Add the chickpea and mix them with the contents in the pot to combine well. Cook for about 2 minutes for the flavor to absorb well in the chickpeas.

Step 4

Pour in the coconut cream and stir to mix well. Cook on medium-low heat for a short time. Add some hot water if the consistency is too thick for you but don’t make it too runny. Remove from the stove serve over rice, sweet potato, or quinoa, and enjoy.

The best Vegan Chickpea Curry.An excellent recipe for a healthy quick dinner or lunch. Serve it over rice, mashed potato, or quinoa.



1 Can /cup cooked chickpea

2 Tbsp. grapeseed or olive oil

1 medium chopped onion

4 Tbsp. tomato paste

½ tsp curry powder

2 cloves garlic minced

1 large carrot chopped 

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1/4 tsp  turmeric powder

½ cup coconut cream

1/4  cup hot water

Chopped cilantro for garnishing. (optional)


1. Heat grapeseed /olive oil in a medium saucepan; add onions and cook until soft (about 2minutes)Add the garlic and cook for another for 1-2 minutes, then add the chopped carrots.

3. Add your tomato paste and Stir to combine well, then add the spices and mix well. Add the cooked chickpeas combine well, and let suite’ for 2-3 minutes.

4. Pour in coconut cream and combine well, occasionally stirring to allow the chickpea to absorb the flavor.

5. Add a little bit of clean hot water to make a pourable paste if the consistency is too thick—Cook for the shortest time possible.

6. Serve in a clean bowl. Garnish with freshly chopped herbs or parsley and serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or quinoa.
